Rancho Named One of “America’s Best Hospitals”
In Rehabilitation Medicine for 21st Consecutive Year

For the 21st consecutive year, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center has been named one of “America’s Best Hospitals” in Rehabilitation Medicine in the prestigious U.S. News & World Report rankings.

“Rancho is the only public rehabilitation hospital, and the only rehab facility based in California or any of our neighboring states to be ranked in the top 20 on this year’s list of top Rehabilitation hospitals,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe. “Congratulations to the entire Rancho Los Amigos team for demonstrating every day that Rancho has the ’best’ patient care of any rehab facility in our state.”

Rancho moved up one spot this year to 17th in the current rankings. Rancho has been in the Top 20 in Rehabilitation Medicine every year since the U.S. News & World Report survey began more than two decades ago.

Rancho’s Neurologists Present at Major Conferences

Rancho Neurologists will be presenters at the upcoming International Stroke Conference February 9-11 in Los Angeles and the American Academy of Neurology’s 63rd Annual Meeting April 9-16 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Amy Towfighi, MD will be making a platform presentation and also presenting two posters at the International Stroke Conference. Dr. Towfighi will be making a platform and a poster presentation at the AAN conference. Susan Shaw, MD will also be making a poster presentation at the AAN conference.

“This is just another example of Rancho’s clinical leadership,” said Rancho’s Chief Medical Officer Mindy Aisen, herself a noted neurologist. “With Dr. Towfighi, Dr. Shaw and Dr. David Millett, Rancho has three of the most outstanding neurologists in Rehabilitation Medicine today.”



Rancho’s Rehabilitation Census Increases 28% in 2010

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center’s rehabilitation census grew by an astonishing 28 percent in 2010, Rancho Chief Executive Officer Jorge Orozco reported.

“This tremendous growth was achieved because of a community outreach effort that included building stronger relationships with physicians and hospitals throughout the region, as well as with new contractual relationships with a number of health plans and the Veteran’s Administration,” Mr. Orozco said.



Volunteers Honored at Luncheon

More than 225 Rancho volunteers will be honored at this year's luncheon to be held on April 8 and 15th in Café Amigos at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. In 2010, Rancho's volunteers provided more than 1 million dollars of time and service to support the mission of the hospital. This is a milestone for volunteer services at Rancho. Alex Morales will be honored Volunteer of the Year and the Warren High School Red Cross Club will be honored Junior Volunteers of the Year.

Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center has been ranked among the 10 best hospitals in the Greater Los Angeles area in U.S.News & World Report’s new Metro Los Angeles survey.

Rancho ranked 7th of the 138 hospitals ranked in Los Angeles and Orange County. Rancho was the only Rehabilitation hospital listed among the leading hospitals.

“This is a tremendous honor for Rancho, and represents a recognition of the outstanding quality of care we provide for our patients, as well as our status as a leader in Rehabilitation Medicine locally, nationally and internationally,” said Rancho Chief Executive Officer Jorge Orozco.

“I want to congratulate the entire Rancho family for this latest recognition of the hospital’s excellence,” said Dr. Mitchell Katz, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. “It underscores the quality of care that is being achieved for our patients within the DHS system every day.”

Being highly ranked nothing new for Rancho. It has been named one of “America’s Best Hospitals” in the U.S.News & World Report survey for 21 consecutive years.
