Mindy Lipson Aisen, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Appointed CMO in August 2009, Dr. Aisen brings extensive leadership,
healthcare and research expertise to Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT) and her Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University College
of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her residency in Neurology at The New York
Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Aisen's professional experiences include CEO of the Cerebral Palsy International
Research Foundation; Adjunct Professor of the Department of Neurology at Georgetown
University School of Medicine; Director of Technology Transfer and
Director of Rehabilitation Research and Development at the Department of Veterans
Affairs; Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at Cornell University Medical
College; Neurorehabilitation Fellowship Director at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital;
Director of Spinal Cord, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy Service; Director of MIT-Burke
Collaborative Rehabilitation Engineering Research Program; Attending Neurologist at
The New York Hospital; Preceptor for The New York Hospital residents in the departments
of Neurology and Physiatry; Attending Neurologist in the Electromyography Laboratory
at The New York Hospital; Attending Neurologist of the Multiple Sclerosis Research and
Training Facility at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine; Attending Physician at
the Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine; and Assistant Professor of
Neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Aisen is Principal Investigator of the Spinal Cord Injury Model System, a prestigious
designation awarded to Rancho's Spinal Cord Injury Program by the National Institute on Disability
and Rehabilitation Research (2011-2016). She is an accomplished researcher with numerous
peer reviewed journal publications, editorials, and books and chapters and has presented to
various scientific, medical and academic organizations on topics such as cerebral palsy,
advances in neurological rehabilitation, emerging technologies in neuroplasticity, spinal
cord injury regeneration, engineering research advances, emerging technologies for persons
with disability, advances in clinical management of multiple sclerosis, treatment of chronic
pain, etc.
Recent professional honors and appointments include board elected positions to the
American Society of Neurorehabilitation Foundation, American Academy of Neurology, and American
Society for Experimental Neuro Therapeutics. She co-chaired the American Scientific Organizing
Committee Israel Rehabilitation Medicine Society, was a member of the NIH Council - National
Institute Child Health, elected fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological
Engineering, member of the ex-officio Board of American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and
Developmental Medicine, and member of the National Leadership Board VHA and honorary fellow
of the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America.
Dr. Aisen is board certified in Neurology and Neurorehabilitation.
