Rehabilitation Therapy Division Chief
Chief of Physical Therapy
Ms. Thompson was appointed Rehabilitation Therapy Division Chief and Chief of Physical
Therapy in 2006. She has been instrumental in designing and overseeing the implemention of
Rancho's Day Rehabilitation and Wellness Centers. The centers are
vital resources for patients, which serve to bridge recovery and improve patient outcomes so
patients can live full and productive lives in the community. The rehabilitation therapy division
consists of physical, occupational, recreation and speech therapies, audiology and a
multitude of specialized patient programs such as the Pathokinesiology Laboratory, the
Center for Applied Rehabilitation Technology (CART), the Language and Culture Resource Center,
Seating Center, etc.
Ms. Thompson has served on several grant funded research projects related
to aging with a disability, evidence-based practice in physical therapy, and shoulder pain
intervention. She has published several journal articles and has made
numerous professional presentations in the areas of spinal cord injury, obesity and disability,
and aging with a disability. Ms. Thompson started at Rancho as a physical therapist in 1988 and
has held positions in the adult brain injury and neurology, spinal cord injury, and pediatric
services.
Ms. Thompson earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Physical Therapy from the Medical
College of Virginia in Richmond and in Education from the University of Virginia in Charlottsville.
She is certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a Neurologic Clinical
Specialist and by RESNA as a Certified Assistive
Technology Practitioner. Her professional affiliations include:
