Urology
The primary focus of the Urology Program at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center
is the evaluation and treatment of neurogenic bladder. Nerogenic bladder is a bladder dysfunction
that often occurs secondary to a neurologic disorder such as spinal cord injury, multiple
sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and spina bifida. Common symptoms of neurogenic bladder
include urinary incontinence, difficulty emptying the bladder, a frequent urge to urinate, and
urinary tract infections. These issues can often be treated conservately with a combination of
medical therapy and catheterization as needed. If more invasive therapy is required we perform
cutting-edge reconstructive surgery of the bladder that can often resolve or greatly improve
bothersome symptoms associated with neurogenic bladder.
Many of the surgical options that are available to our patients have been refined and advanced
by the urology team at Rancho Los Amigos, specifically for patients who suffer from neurogenic
bladder. The urology program welcomes patient referrals for consultation and treatment.
