Audiology
The Audiology program at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation
Center assesses hearing and balance as it relates
to communication and diseases of the ear. Audiologists determine the degree of
hearing, provide individual and family education about hearing impairment and
provide solutions for hearing loss. These include hearing aids and hearing systems,
listening therapy, telephone and television devices, etc. to enhance
communication in every setting. Clinical staff maintain a close working
relationship with local schools, hearing aid dispensers and in-house Otolaryngologists.
An audiologist also performs specialized tests for individuals with balance
and other ear disorders. The practice of audiology is also concerned with
hearing conservation and works to develop and implement workplace programs to
prevent noise related hearing loss.
