Driver Evaluation and Training Program
For disabled or medically at-risk drivers
General Information
Since 1957, the Occupational Therapy Department at Rancho Los Amigos
National Rehabilitation Center has helped people with disabilities
become safe, skilled drivers and has consulted on modified vehicle
selection to fit driver needs. The Driving Evaluation and Training
Program serves drivers of all ages (disabled teenage drivers to senior drivers,
approximately 300 persons referred to the program annually.
Services Provided
- Pre-driving screening and exercises to enhance driving skills
- Behind-the-wheel evaluation of driving potential
- Individualized driver training with adaptive driving equipment
- Driving simulator training with adaptive driving equipment
- Evaluation for modified vehicle and equipment needs
- Resource of commercially available equipment
- Preparation for DMV licensing and driver safety procedures
- Information and counseling about driving needs
- Driver education for new or experienced drivers
- Referrals to other driving resources when appropriate
- Community mobility training/exploring alternatives to driving
- Passenger evaluation

Staff Qualifications
Our staff includes Registered/Licensed Occupational Therapists,
Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialists, and Driving Instructors.
