Excellence in Dentistry for People with Disabilities

The Department of Dentistry at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center has demonstrated commitment and excellence in treating patients with special needs for nearly 80 years. Dentists at Rancho Los Amigos are specifically trained in providing specialized dental treatment for people with physical or developmental disabilities, or those with chronic, severe medical problems.

The dental facility is designed and equipped to accommodate patients who are wheelchair users and unable to transfer to a dental chair, who must receive dental care on a gurney, or are unable to have dental care done in the regular clinic area due to their disability. The dental clinic provides approximately 6,200 patient visits per year including approximately 1,200 pediatric visits. A complete range of dental services is available, including:

Specialized training for dental professionals

The Department has supported a Pediatric Dentistry Residency since 1969 and a General Practice Residency since 1980.  Both programs emphasize clinical excellence in treating Rancho's unique patient population.  Both programs are fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation and the Department of Dentistry is accredited by the ADA Council on Accreditation of Hospital and Institutional Dental Services.
