Sophia Chun, M.D.
Dr. Chun currently serves as Consulting Specialist for the outpatient clinics and rehabilitation services at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. She specializes in musculoskeletal procedures (e.g., shoulder injections for shoulder pain, botulism toxin injection and nerve blocks for spasticity, trigger point injections for myofascial pain syndrome, joint injections/aspirations, myofascial/soft tissue manipulation), thoracentesis, paracentesis and central line placement. Dr. Chun earned her medical degree from Loma Linda University, School of Medicine and completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She joined the medical staff at Rancho in 1998.
Dr. Chun was awarded honorary member of the American Registry of Outstanding Professionals in 2003; Physician of the Year in 2000 at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center and Outstanding Director by the Women with Spinal Cord Injury Wellness and Education Group in 2002 and 2003. She co-founded the Women's Wellness Education Group for women with spinal cord injury at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (2000-2004); is medical advisor for the South Orange County Post-Polio Survivor Plus Organization from 2001, consultant for the care of patients with Post-Polio for the department of Managed Health Care (2003-2004) and physical medicine and rehabilitation advisor for Caremore Medicare Advantage from 2003.
She has served as Assistant Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of California in Irvine from 2005 and the University of California in Los Angeles from 2000. Dr. Chun lectures to support groups on post-polio and stroke. She serves as investigator or principle investigator on several funded research projects related to aging and disability, spinal cord injury, stroke, women with disabilities and children with cerebral palsy.
Dr. Chun is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Paraplegia Society, American Spinal International Association and Phi Beta Kappa.
