Pamela Jones, COTA/C & Robbie Merriweather, COTA/C presented to a large group of stroke survivors and their caregivers on strategies for independent living for a community-based workshop sponsored by the Stroke Association of Southern California.
Shawn Phipps, MS, OTR/L presented "Opening Our Eyes to Low Vision" at the Stroke Recovery Group sponsored by the Stroke Association of Southern California in Santa Monica, California.
Oscar Gallardo, MSPT developed Fit Families, a community clinic program that focuses on diabetes prevention in adolescents and their families. The program emphasizes diabetes education and the importance of regular exercise, good nutrition, facts on medication, and diabetes prevention.
Wheels for Humanity provides donated wheelchairs and seating systems to individuals with disabilities all over the world. Jan Furumasu, PT volunteers twice a year with a team of physical and occupational therapists, seating specialists and rehabilitation technology suppliers to personally fit donated and refurbished wheelchairs and seating systems to individuals in need.
Jan Furumasu, PT is a member of a 28-member nationwide Clinical Task Force that makes recommendations to federal payers on behalf of individuals with disabilities on eligibility requirements for powered mobility that are professionally sound and clinically appropriate.
Randy Joe, PTA volunteers at U.S. Adaptive Recreation Center's summer camping programs in Big Bear, California. He works with children and adults with disabilities in activities such as camping, water and jet skiing, kayaking, sailing and fishing.
Certified Driver Rehab Specialists, Sandra Okada, MSG, OTR/L and Ken Reynolds, DI of Rancho's Driving Program participated in CARFIT - an event that helps mature drivers with driver safety, sponsored by AAA, AOTA, AARP and the American Society on Aging. Sandra and Ken also attended Leisure World's Transportation Day - Mobility Choices for Independence.
