Luis Montes, M.D.

Dr. Montes serves as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. He oversees all aspects of the world-renowned facility's 25 bed Pediatric service that treats children with catastrophic disabling illnesses and injuries such as spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury and neuromuscular diseases.

Dr. Montes brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and innovation to Rancho's pediatric population, with interests in constraint-induced movement therapy and video telemetry for children with special needs and a desire to synergize pediatric treatment teams to care for patients with complex needs.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, completed a fellowship in Pediatric Rehabilitation at Rancho Los Amigos, and his residency at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California (LAC/USC) Pediatric Pavilion.

Dr. Montes' professional experience includes serving as Medical Director of the Special Needs Clinic at White Memorial Pediatric Medical Group, Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Department at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Medical Director of the Los Angeles Immunization Program, Director of the Pediatric Spinal Cord Injury Program and Staff Physician at Rancho Los Amigos, and Staff Physician in the Pediatric Emergency Department at LAC/USC.

Academic achievements include didactic teaching of pediatric residents and medical students and Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the USC Keck School of Medicine. He also serves as a Medical Reviewer for California Children Services. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics; member of the Board of Youth Alive, an agency dedicated to youth violence prevention for which he has helped raise over $2 million to fund violence prevention and intervention services in Los Angeles County; and a member of the Advisory Board of Women Against Gun Violence. He is a consultant to the American Academy of Pediatrics, Violence Prevention Task Force at the State and National levels.

Dr. Montes is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
