Yaga Szlachcic, M.D.
Dr. Szlachcic serves as Chief of Cardiology at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center since 1996. She is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) where she lectures in hypertension, heart failure, and myocardial ischemia to medical student, interns, residents and fellows.
Dr. Sczlachcic is most notable for her research in hypertensive heart disease; ventricular arrhythmias in hypertension; congestive heart failure; premature artherosclerosis in patients with spinal cord injury; and in the health issues of women with spinal cord injury. She has served as principal investigator and co-investigator on several research grants and currently has several research projects that are in progress. Dr. Szlachcic has published numerous abstracts and peer-reviewed journal articles and holds membership with the Medical Faculty Women Association; American Society of Hypertension; American Medical Association; International Society for Holter & Non-invasive Electrocardiography; American Federation for Clinical Research; and the Hypertension Council of the American Heart Association.
She started at Rancho Los Amigos in 1995 and in addition to serving as Chief of Cardiology, she is an active member of the Clinical Pathway Development Committee, Chair of the Credentials Committee, Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and Medical Director of the Diagnostics Laboratory. She earned her medical degree from Warsaw Medical School and completed her residency training at University Hospital in Warsaw, Poland. She completed fellowships in Cardiology at the Cardiovascular Research Institute in San Francisco, California and the Montreal Heart Institute in Montreal, Canada. She also completed a fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of California at San Francisco.
Dr. Szlachcic is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
