Gerontology
The Gerontology program provides expert inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation service to older adults (age 60 and over) who have disabling medical, surgical, and neurologic disorders such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, fractures, deconditioning and other related disorders.
The in-patient program is under the direction of a Board Certified geriatrician and is staffed by a full team of therapists. Specialty medication rounds staffed by pharmacists and pharmacy interns provide further expertise to the sometimes-difficult task of prescribing medications for the elderly. At discharge time, home visits, if necessary, are arranged to assure a satisfactory transition to the home and the community.
The out-patient program accepts referrals from the community and assures a continuation of the inpatient rehabilitation process if applicable. Driving evaluation and training are available and can be arranged if appropriate.
Other outpatient services available are geriatric and gerontologic consultation, adult day health care treatments, psychologic service group programs, community assistance and family education.
